What is LaserJet printing? This kind of printing is where a Laserjet toner cartridge, with ink in it, is inserted into a pumping and spraying mechanism that will type ink onto paper. Pretty simple idea, but pretty complicated technology. Over the years, printing has evolved from woodblock printing, to the printing press with movable type, to the current high-speed and high-quality printing devices that we know well. The three main types of printing for offices – both home and corporate – are laserjet, dot-matrix, and inkjet. Today we will discuss the advantages of laserjet printing.

Many printers in older days of personal computers were very loud, inefficient, and slow. Today’s Laserjet printers are none of these. They are usually very fast (although not quite as fast as laser printing), quiet, and get the job done well. The definition of font, detail, and color is often much better with laserjet than with other types of technology. Many people use laserjet printers for family photo printing since they are commonplace for consumers, but are also produce good quality. When you consider the alternative, laserjets also do not need any warm up time – they start as you print. Additionally, there are some advantages to ink specialization available to this technology that will help consumers who need such specialization.

However, this kind of printing does have its downsides. For one, laserjet toner is very expensive; for some, prohibitively so. If you require many, many pages of documentation, an alternative might be better to save on ink cartridge costs. Another problem with laserjet cartridges is that they may have a chip that communicates their fullness, which sometimes malfunctions. Also, ink might smear (if aqueous in nature) and the printer nozzle can become jammed with ink crust.

Clearly, a consumer has a lot of options for personal printing. Make sure you know all the ups and downs of printing before you purchase a printer.

If you are looking for helpful advice on how to order a printer cartridge, there are several things you can do to make your experience a good one – as well as getting it as cheaply as possible.

First of all, figure out who manufactured your printer. Once you have the brand name, go to the manufacturer’s website and research the type of toner cartridge you need – for example, if you use an HP printer, HP 3800 toner would be a good kind. The type of cartridge you need could depend not only on the printer you have, but also the ink you need and different speeds.

Secondly, search around for the best price. Often, online retailers that specialize in low-cost goods can be a good place to start. Manufacturers also are a good place to order from, although their price may not be the lowest. Using the HP 3800 toner from above, you can order from HP’s website. Distributors and office supply firms can also offer great prices on these cartridges. Lastly, you could go to a retail store in person if you need more help or want to see the different printer cartridges in action.

Thirdly, once you are ready to make your choice, and want to stick with it, buy in bulk to save money. This could once again mean going through different channels to find your best price of bulk cartridges, but it is worth it for the cost savings. If online outfits do not offer the price you seek, try in-person shopping and see what they will give you.

If you go the online route, try to get the best deal on shipping possible. Many big online retailers offer good shipping deals, especially if you order a certain dollar amount or if you join their savings club on shipping. Above all, remember that you, the consumer, has the power to find the best printer cartridge at the lowest price if you want to end up with the best product for your use.

Hey you! Over there, with the toner cartridge in your hand! Don’t throw that in the trash, there’s a better way! That’s not trash, that is money in your hands… make sure you recycle it through a toner cartridge recycling program!

Have you ever thoughtlessly tossed an empty printer cartridge into the trash? I know I have. The big problem is that millions of us do that every year, leading to almost 400 million of these cartridges being chucked into already overfilled landfills every year in the United States alone. Obviously, this is a bad practice and must be rectified. How could we possibly explain to our great-grandchildren that the reason they cannot drink clean drinking water or breathe healthy air is because we could no’t put our obviously recyclable products in a blue container?

Bringing back an old toner cartridge for recycle is not only essential for the health of our planet; it is easier than you think. Many outfits that stock printers, fax machines, and other office supplies also will take old printer cartridges and recycle them. Many places, especially online outfits, will offer you some cash for your recycling. Not bad, eh?

Printer manufacturers themselves are usually a bit stingier, but most of them do offer recycling programs, if not for cash. If you are interested in getting more involved in the new “green movement” and don’t know where to start, you could organize a recycling program for cartridges. It’s simple – just keep them together until you’re ready to recycle them all together. You may even make a little money at it, which is never a bad thing.

Every little bit helps. So the next time you hear that “skronk” of a printer noise, meaning you are out of toner, remember to consider the environment before you toss the cartridge into the trash. Us humans may only live 70 or 80 years, but our impact lasts far longer than that.

In the old days, when one wanted to learn about a new subject or product, there were just about two (and only two) options available: the library or a store. Now, our great Information Age is upon us and there are multitudes of opportunities to find out about the technology behind new printer cartridges.

A cursory web search for toner cartridge articles will bring up a myriad of information, compiled by manufacturers, dealers, distributors, retail stores, consumers, online retailers, and more. The Internet is once again a veritable treasure trove of information when it comes to toner cartridges, as well as many other things.

Another good source of information concerning toner cartridges is an office supply catalog. Usually, if you can find the printer manufacturer in the back of the catalog, they will have a section devoted to your specific printer and all its associated accessories. Toner sections can get a bit confusing, owing to their large diversity of products in this line. Often, the toner cartridges are numbered (i.e. 21, 23, etc.). Pay attention to any information on your old, used cartridge to order the correct toner cartridge for your printer.

Manufacturers’ websites may offer toner cartridge articles that you seek as well. Companies such as Canon, HP, Epson, and Lexmark have sections devoted to toner on their pages. There is a good reason that they devote plenty of marketing attention to toner, since that is usually where they make a good amount of money. After a consumer purchases a somewhat expensive product from them ($150-1000), they will probably not make another purchase of this type for at least a few years, dependent on the life expectancy of the printer or fax machine. However, the ink for the device will run out long before the device itself needs replacing; thus, the attention manufacturers give to toner is almost equal to the amount of attention given to printers themselves.

Ever wonder how printing went from Gutenberg’s printing press to pressing a button on a modern word processor that translates into that output on your paper? Me too. Let’s examine a modern inkjet printer cartridge and see how they work.

The outside, usually a dark color, is called the case, since it holds all of the other components together. Next, the yellow/orange tape on the device is called the “flex tape”. In order to properly reuse these cartridges, the flex tape needs to be completely intact. The third main component of the printer cartridge is the “nozzle plate” – which connects the printing function to the ink sticks. Again, for proper recycling, the nozzle plate must not have any holes and must be completely intact to be recycled.

Inside the device are things called “resistors”. These resistors heat the ink sticks, which causes it to expand – remember your science lessons here? Once the ink expands, it transitions through the jets, through the nozzle plate and onto your paper. Some companies, however, do not use all of these components inside the printer cartridges, but instead use them inside the printer itself – making many of them ineligible for recycling programs.

To make the printer and ink toner cartridges work better, follow these simple three instructions. One, never shake your cartridges, as this could damage them. Two, never touch the nozzle plate or any part of the cartridges where the ink and cartridge make contact with the page – this could cause smearing and leaking of ink. Third, never leave your cartridges in a warm area or outside of your printer for long, especially outside the packaging. Since the heat activates the ink, this could cause leakage of ink.

Another way to make your printer work better besides proper care for your cartridge and storage of components, as well as refilling properly and in a timely fashion would be to clean your printer every 4-6 months. Using all of these techniques should help your printer run to its fullest ability.

According to online consumer sources, almost 400 million empty toner cartridges are tossed into the garbage every year – in the United States alone. Because of the volatile chemicals inherent in the production process of these cartridges, not to mention the ink itself, this is terrible for the environment. Most of the cartridges that U.S. consumers use end up in landfills, not plants where they recycle – or worse, in incinerators that burn up the plastic and pollute our air. What to do?

First of all, you have to understand that some cartridges cannot even be recycled, due to the requirements of some toner cartridge recycling companies. If you are using a recycled cartridge already, they cannot usually be re-recycled, so keep this in mind. If you have a newer cartridge that requires recycling, ensure that your cartridge is in good condition, and this will help to ensure its “recycle-ability” much more.

In addition to being great for the environment, the recycling of toner cartridges can also earn you money – but not much. Don’t plan on making a get-rich scheme out of it, but you can earn a few extra dollars back – possibly enough to offset your shipping costs if you are ordering from an online retailer. However, some cartridges, depending on their type, can earn as much as $15.

To make an even bigger impact on the environment, you can involve others – coworkers, friends, employees, family members, etc. Tell them about your recycling “program”, which could just mean that you collect a bunch of old cartridges and send them for recycling all at once. You could make a bit more from this, although that shouldn’t be the main goal! Remember, when it comes to offsetting the horrible practices of putting cartridges in landfills, we have much work to do, so every little bit helps. Happy recycling!

Picture yourself standing next to the printer, hearing the familiar squirting of ink and the movement of the inkjet in the machine as it prints your documents. Suddenly, it stops – “More toner, please!” the machine seems to scream. Now what? How do you know which kind of toner to buy, why to buy it, and where to get the best deals? A simple web search reveals a whole category of publications and toner cartridge articles dedicated to ink toner.

Many blogs are out there to help consumers deal with the high range of specialization the printer ink and cartridges hold in the marketplace. For example, if you open up an office supplies catalog, you can find hundreds of variations on ink cartridges and toners from a singular manufacturer. This stunning array of options can be pretty hard for a consumer new to the toner world to understand. Blog articles can help consumers decide what is required for their machine and which ink and cartridges are right for their everyday usage.

While it may not seem like a hot topic – it’s certainly no American Idol – ink has its place in our everyday lives, and as such, requires some Internet activity surrounding it. Anytime a manufacturer produces a brand new ink (a new material, a new technology, etc.), blogs and newspaper articles are going to report on it. Other articles discuss the merits of certain technologies in printing – laser vs. dot matrix vs. inkjet, for example. Still others may report on the environmental effects of toner usage and how to best recycle these ink containers.

Since the ink and printer industry is just like any other in some ways, articles give people a clue about new deals going on with certain companies, industrial trends, and other information to help consumers understand what their peers are buying and why. Many times, advances in cost-effectiveness and reliability can completely change buying habits. Magazine and newspaper articles are there for consumers to learn about new trends from people who care about the subject – ink and toner being key in this case.

One of the biggest expenses that manifests itself in daily office use – whether the home office or the corporate one – is printer ink. Since inkjet printers use cartridges – such as HP P1005– and this technology is widely available, cartridge replacement can get expensive quick, given the ease of use that leads to a high volume of documents being printed.

Say, for example, you are at home. You decide to print out some pictures of your daughter’s birthday party to show to friends. You start printing a few, and then… uh-oh, your ink cartridge has run out. Or, let’s say you’re at the office. You’re under a tight deadline and your boss wants your work completed any minute. You’ve made your last minute changes and you’re ready to give him the results – and your printer runs out of ink. Clearly, this can be a challenge. You should have the correct knowledge and tools at your disposal to help you fix these situations quickly.

First of all, depending on the brand, like the above mentioned HP P1005, you can usually purchase an ink refill kit wherever you usually buy your printing supplies or home computer supplies. Usually, these refill kits will run about half of what the original toner cartridge cost. Since ink can get messy, make sure to also stock up on plenty of paper towels and scotch tape. Once you get the supplies, set up your kit on a flat surface. (A good hint is to also have rubber gloves on hand since the ink can stain your hands, like hair dye.)

Usually, you can then take the cartridge and refill it using the correct ink according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This will take some time and patience, and even some skill – it is not easy. After you have finished filling all of your empty cartridges, check them using the various tests described in the instructions of the kit. Print various colors to ensure it works right. The payoff is a nice one – lots of money can be saved on this simple procedure.

The green movement has made us all more aware of how our consumption effects the earth. Instead of blindly throwing everything away these days, we often try to find an alternative to waste – recycling, which reuses our waste and reallocates the material back into the supply chain. To recycle a toner cartridge is no different. The plastic that they are manufactured from can be harmful to humans and animals alike. In addition, since they are by their very nature a disposable commodity, ink cartridges are bound to run out sooner or later. It’s simply a question of whether they’ll end up in a landfill, or being put back into the next cartridge you buy from the store. It is always a good idea to consider toner cartridge recycling before simply throwing away a cartridge.

If you’re not sure where to start, try the place you got the toner cartridge from. For example, Staples, the office supply chain store, has a promotion that will credit each new purchase with $2 for recycling each cartridge that you bring in to recycle. This will add the cartridge back into the supply chain for the manufacturer, helping them cut down on cost of material production, thereby working its way back through to the consumer in the form of a price cut, credit or discount. Recycling makes good economic sense as well as being good for the environment.

Depending on the make and model of the cartridge, some can fetch a decent price through some websites – up to about 20% of their value. On some websites, certain brands of empty toner cartridges were going for up to $4 – not bad when one of them costs about $20.

Make sure that when you invest in a printer, you realize that cartridges will be a consistent and sometimes large expense in your home office use. Be positive that your printer can use refills or you can at least get some kind of credit or cash for your toner cartridge – this will give you an extra incentive to be good to mother earth.

We all know that getting ink for a printer is a function of everyday office life – the paper runs out in the printer, the fax machine stops working, the phone system goes down. These are all facts of life around the office. But did you ever stop to think about what makes up the technology that goes into these daily office miracles? Inkjet printers are just one of the few ways that technology has benefited mankind – especially those of us with desk-jockey jobs.

Toner cartridge articles can help us understand the various types of printing. Unlike laser printing and dot-matrix printing, inkjet printing uses refillable ink canisters called toner. Because of their affordability and ease of use, inkjet printers are the most common types of printers on the market today. Most modern inkjet printers were developed in the 1950s. Obviously, manufacturers used various technological methods of producing ink onto paper using inkjet printers – and this trend still continues today. Much mechanical engineering and chemical engineering is still responsible for the output and capabilities of modern printers. Manufacturers use thermal energy, piezoelectric energy, and basic pumping technology to force ink out of a nozzle and onto a page.

The ink itself is also a technological marvel. Obviously, printing out a typical office report or document does not require the same kind of material stability that printing out massive quantities of packaging does, for example. There are various types of ink, which include aqueous inks (using mixtures of water and dyes), solvent inks (much more environmental damage is perpetuated by these types of inks, as their composition is much more unnatural), and UV-curable inks (UV rays cure the ink made from various solutions in this method). Toner cartridge articles abound on the Internet regarding these subjects.

Clearly, most people do not think about all the technology and engineering that go into making inkjet printing possible and prevalent in our everyday usage. It just goes to show that technology yet again impacts our lives in more ways than is even conceivable in these modern times.
