How To Print Web Pages

Web pages are designed to be seen on a screen, not on paper, so they don’t always print out easily. Some web pages will print adverts around the content, or print a very thin column of text, which can use several pages to display something that could be easily displayed on one with the correct formatting. Adding a few steps will help you get a quality document from the webpage.

The first step is to look for a link to a printable version of the web page. Sometimes this will be a link saying “print,” or you may find a small printer icon. Usually this will take you to a version of the page specifically formatted for a printer. This is the easiest way to print.

If there is no printable version of the page then you can highlight the text, then copy and paste it into a program like Notepad. In most cases this will put the text in a useable format which you can print out without any trouble. Notepad is great because it removes all the formatting from the text.

If you need to print a picture from a webpage, then try right clicking on the picture and opening it in a new window. Clicking “View Image” will open the image. If printing from the new window still doesn’t work, then download the image by right clicking and selecting “Save Image As.” You’ll then be able to open the image in another program and print it from there.

A combination of pictures and text without a printable version online may require you to use a word processing program, like Microsoft Word, to recreate the document in a printable form. You can copy and paste both the images and text into a new document and then print that. If you are planning on distributing the information to a lot of people then it may be worth laying out the printable document in a word processor to make sure it is easy to read.
